In a recent interview with Estadão, I had the opportunity to discuss the promising role of green hydrogen in advancing sustainable practices within agriculture and industry. We explored the significant challenges associated with large-scale adoption, including the low volumetric energy density of hydrogen, the energy-intensive nature of its production, and the phenomenon of hydrogen embrittlement in metals. To address these issues, my research focuses on visualising interactions between hydrogen and metal atoms using advanced microscopy techniques. This approach aims to develop more resilient metal alloys for safe hydrogen storage and transportation. By overcoming these obstacles, we can harness hydrogen’s potential to drive a sustainable and decarbonized future.
