Andreas Weidinger: Pushing the Boundaries of Aluminium Alloy Research

We are thrilled to spotlight the remarkable work of Andreas Weidinger, a doctoral researcher in the Chair of Nonferrous Metallurgy at Montanuniversität Leoben. Currently a visiting scholar at Chalmers University in Sweden, Andreas is making waves in the Swedish lands with his innovative research on aluminum alloys.

His groundbreaking work with 5/7 crossover aluminum alloy powders has just been selected as the Best Picture of the Year 2024 at the Chalmers’s Materials Science and Engineering Department, showcasing his skill in blending cutting-edge science with the art of scanning electron microscopy. This recognition is a testament to Andreas’ ability to merge the technical and creative aspects of materials science.

As part of his ongoing PhD research, Andreas is exploring new methods for the continuous casting of advanced aluminum alloys, as well as pioneering additive manufacturing techniques for lightweight aluminum-based alloys.
